Discussions on God Particle with Prof K J Rao, Part -1
By:
Iskcon, Bangalore Prof KJ Rao is an eminent scientist, scholar and Emeritus Prof. at Solid State and Structural Chemistry Unit of The Indian Institute of Science(IISc), Bangalore.
He has been involved in various research programs at IISc and has been guiding many budding scientists. When Srila Prabhupada’s ISKCON Bangalore approached him for his first thoughts on the discovery of the ‘God Particle’, he was glad to give his time and share his thoughts.
We are happy to post a two part video series about this.

Higgs Boson : Vedic perspective
HIGGS BOSON : THE GOD PARTICLE
The Higgs — famously dubbed “the God particle,” is so fundamental to the universe that, in its absence, nothing could exist. The subatomic particle is thought to create a sort of force field that permeates the cosmos and imbues other particles with the property known as mass — the resistance to being shoved around. It is a particle that is apparently fundamental to the texture of the universe.
What is this universe or matter? What is it made of?
Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego — all together these eight constitute My separated material energies. Bhagavad-gītā As It Is 7.4
How does it work?
Material energy or nature does not work independently. Many electronic mechanisms work wonderfully, but behind these intricate systems there is a scientist or operator who pushes the button. Similarly, this cosmic manifestation which we call nature is a great machine and behind this machine there is God, Krishna. (Srila Prabhupada)
"This material nature is working under My direction, O son of Kunti, producing all the moving and unmoving beings, and by its rule this manifestation is created and annihilated again and again." (Gita 9.10).
This material energy is called Maya which limits us through its three modes . We are actually subatomic particles called Jivatma or soul of the size of one in 10,000th part of the tip of a hair. We constitute particles of the marginal energy that are infused into this world of inert matter.
What is the description of the source of all these energies ? The ultimate God particle?
“The whole cosmic order is under me. By my will it is manifested again and again, and by my will it is annihilated at the end” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 9.8)
“With a single fragment of myself I pervade and support this entire universe”(Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 10.42)
The Supreme Lord is represented throughout the entire material universes by His entering into all things as the Supersoul. The Lord here tells Arjuna that there is no point in understanding how things exist in their separate opulence and grandeur. He should know that all things are existing due to Kṛṣṇa's entering them as Supersoul. From Brahmā, the most gigantic entity, on down to the smallest ant, all are existing because the Lord has entered each and all and is sustaining them. The Lord is all-pervading by the expansion of His partial representation, the Supersoul, who enters into everything that(Bhagavad-Gita 10.42 Srila Prabhupada purport)
“I enter into each planet, and by energy they stay in orbit” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 15.13)
How can one find out about this cause or origin of universe? Is it by using a Higgs-hunting Large Hadron Collider, a $10 billion effort involving 6,000 researchers, a 17-mile circular tunnel deep beneath the border of France and Switzerland, thousands of torpedo-size magnets capable of bending beams of subatomic matter, and trillions of subatomic collisions ?
Srila Prabhupada : So what we shall understand about God? It is not possible. Therefore it is said, atah sri-krsna-namadi na bhaved grahyam indriyaih [BRS. 1.2.234]. In our present senses we always think of seeing. But we forget, what seeing power we have got? It is nothing. It is simply under certain condition we can see a little portion. We cannot see perfectly, so we should not believe in our seeing power. So therefore sastra says, atah sri-krsna-namadi na bhaved grahyam indriyaih: [BRS. 1.2.234] "You cannot understand Krsna and God by your present imperfect senses. That is not possible." Na bhaved grahyam, "You cannot accept or you cannot receive by your blunt senses." That is not possible. Then how it is possible? "I have... My only asset is these blunt senses. How can I understand God?" Yes. Sevonmukhe hi jihvadau svayam eva sphuraty adah. If you engage in devotional service, then God will reveal to you, "Here I am. Here I am. I am like this." Just like Arjuna saw Krsna. He understood God. So if we take the position of Arjuna, submissive... Sisyas te 'ham sadhi mam prapannam, surrender, then God, by kindness, because you have surrendered, He will reveal to you. Otherwise by your so-called calculation, you cannot understand what is the greatest and what is the smallest. But there are things smaller than the smallest and the greater than the greatest. That's all right. Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.3.16
“Even if it were possible to count the atoms after smashing the earth into powder, still it would not be possible to estimate the unfathomable transcendental qualities of the Lord”—Srila Prabhupada. Bhagavatam 1.16.26-30 purport
